Optimism

Today I am optimistic. [I think this has to do with having one of my best weekends yet - thank you for the visit my dear friend from home ] Here are some examples of why:
L told me I was one if his favorite teachers (and he is a major challenge so that was exciting).
When a pencil was thrown at me today I just thought “Yay – a pencil! I can replace some that have magically disappeared from my room”
K gave me another drawing.
D has been good in class for a solid 2 weeks.
Some of my 8th grade girls are SUPER excited that I am baking to help them with their bake sale
And I was able to have a really good dinner – chickpea patties with mediterranean salad -yup – I made it from a Real Simple recipe – woo!
Hope your weeks are going well!

Your ideas please…

Achievement gap = behavior gap? I may only be saying this because I sat in glue today – grrr – and am really tired of the terrible behavoirs I see daily.  And I understand that part of it is having motivated teachers (or not having them for that matter), but really.  My kids are BRILLIANT…

Long time, no post

Hello, again.  Yes I am alive.  Yes I have decided that on my time off I don’t necessarily want to talk about teaching and my students ALLLL the time.  Indeed, I have only just recently come out of a mini depression having realized that my entire life now revolves around teaching.  And when teaching isn’t…

Thanks

Thanksgiving weekend has come and almost gone.  I am thankful for surviving the first marking period, having good friends to eat turkey with and having a loving family that I cannot wait to go home to in 3 weeks and 2 days. Most recent news not related to teaching was that I got to mini…

Heartbroken

Heartbroken…that is me.  Today one of my kids stole my cell phone.  This is after one of my kids went into my desk drawer to steal a bag of candy that I bought as prizes for good behavior.  It breaks my heart that I cannot trust my kids with anything.  They are better than that…

Fall Update

Yes, it has been forever.  But I didn’t have internet for about a month (I still hate you AT&T) and then I had a bad week and didn’t want to talk about it.  But this week has been fine so far and I was able to see a friend from home last weekend in Washington…

My how a month flies by…

Wow! Sorry for the huge gap between posts.  My life has mostly consisted of trying desperately trying to think of ways to engage and teach my students.  Everyday I get to school at about 7am, work for an hour an a half until school starts, teach until 2:35, and then work at school till about…

Day 1 with STUDENTS

Today they came.  The students – I was at school for 11 hours yesterday frantically trying to get my room in a little more order, making copies, trying not to freak completely out – all that good stuff.  Actually, I didn’t get nervous until I put my shoes on this morning and then I thought…

Teacher Day 1

Today was the first day of school for teachers.  It’s official…I am a teacher (eek!) I even have a name tag next to my door! I’m also the entire science department, which sounds funny I am a bit (read a lot) overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in my classroom and having no where to…
